PRODUCT REVIEW!: Mrs. Fields Cookie Scented Candles

As I go about my daily Monday chores of house cleaning and laundry doing, I see a theme developing in my home. And I thought now would be as good a time as any to let you all in on my little cheap secret.

I love BBW candles. That's Bath and Body Works in case you were unaware. They are the best scented, longest burning candles around. They're a bit pricey, but you pay for excellence I've always heard. I don't like ordering candles online. if it's hot outside they come in melted, and even sometimes if it's cold outside the end up melted, or cracked and broken. So if I buy a BBW candle I drive the 45 minutes to my nearest BBW. Last night my husbands family all merged at my Father in Law's house for my oldest sister-in-law's birthday. I noted he had 3 BBW candles burning on his coffee table, and so my youngest sis in law (she is my age) and I were talking about them, and that's when I brought up what I'm about to tell you!

It's no secret I'm a bit of a Dollar Store fanatic. I live and work in the same tiny town and never get out, hardly, into the "big city." So whatever I get in any field is usually a "DOLLAR" product. I've found that the Family Dollar brand candles last longer than the Dollar General "true living" candles, but they don't quite have the same scent factor, and living in an old musty house with a puppy, scent is everything.

So one day I'm moseying through the candle isle at my local Dollar General and see they have picked up a new line of candles.

Mrs. Fields Cookie Candles!

The first thing that caught my attention was the packaging. I'm a sucker for anything "country" themed - hence the floral patterns and distressed looking wood furniture in my house - and so a candle in a jar like that is just too precious! The lid in the perfect size so that once I unscrew it, I sit the candle down in it!

They come in 3 scents (that I'm aware of): Chocolate Chip, Sugar Cookie and Oatmeal Raisin. Not being a huge Oatmeal Raisin fan (they're so deceptive, they look like chocolate chip but once you bite into it you realize you've been had) I purchased the Chocolate Chip Cookie scent first. As someone who thinks she should have been a 1950's June Cleaver type, I always like for my home to smell like fresh baked cookies, so I put this candle in the kitchen. As soon as night fell I lit her up and within no time, probably 10 minutes, my kitchen smelled like for real, homemade fresh baked chocolate chip cookies. My husband was astounded when I told him it was a candle. And then he was disappointed I hadn't actually made him cookies. At the end of the night, around midnight, when I was "shutting down the house" and getting ready to crawl in bed, I went in the kitchen to blow out the candle and saw it had barely burned at all. And by this time it had been burning for about 5 hours.

I was so in love with those candles that they were all I could think about the next day at work. I had to go get more. I wanted them in every "flavor!" - except Oatmeal Raisin, no offence to the Mrs. Fields Cookie Candle people, but Oatmeal Raisin just doesn't send me. That night after we closed up the office I drove back down to the Dollar General and 2 Sugar Cookie Candles for my living room and another Chocolate Chip for my kitchen! They've been burned every night ever since.

Nothing against BBW candles at all, I will still buy them when I'm in town because, lets face it, they're great!  But not everyone can afford BBW candles and not everyone has easy access to them.

Overall I give the Mrs. Fields Cookie Candles a 10 for Packaging a 10 for Price - they are $3.50 a piece at Dollar General (I haven't seen them anywhere else, so I'm thinking this is exclusive to DG), a 10 for scent and a 10 for availability. The last time I was in DG they had a buy one get one 50% off on these candles, but I'm unaware if they are currently on sale as such.

I'll tell you one final secret that I wouldn't tell just anybody. Twice in the last couple of weeks I've gone to bed and left the candle in the kitchen burning. And I'm a long sleeper and my husband doesn't go in the kitchen in the morning before he leaves for work....say I go to bed at 11 and get up around 9:30 and the candle is still burning. Yeah, it's scary, but, on a good note for Mrs. Fields Cookie Candles....they didn't even halfway burn down! They last a very long time and have a very good scent. Well worth $3.50 I think!!

Happy Candle Burning! (but PLEASE blow them out before you go to bed!!)

  1. you should defintely try the oatmeal raisin. I was soo not wanting to try it but my mother got one at a baby shower, and burning, it smells DELICIOUS. I'm not a big fan of the cookie either, but the scent.. its perfect.

    1. I have to agree - I got a case of the 4 scents as a gift and the Oatmeal Raisin was by far the best scent thrower of the bunch!

  4. The oatmeal raisin is actually the best smelling candle of the 4 scents and my least favorite flavor of cookie. Go figure! But it smells the best of the 4 which are: Chocolate Chip, Oatmeal Raisin, Cinnamon Sugar and White Chunk with Macadamia Nuts. And now they are all discontinued and I am down to my last 2 cases. =o(

  5. Missy, I hope you are alerted when new comments are entered as I see this is an old post from 2012 but notice various comments are dated 2013.

I was searching to find out the scents of these candles as I live in Canada and they are featured in my Lowes flyer this week. I've never seen them before as I too burn many candles. I used to work for Canadian head office Carlton Cards/American Greetings before they closed it and relocated it to head office US. One of my lines I was responsible for was candles. In my seach, your site appeared and here I am.

As one of the comments mentioned above that they have been discontinued, I thought I would check the Lowes US site and they list them when I entered the product Mrs Fields candle. I can't tell you the cost or availability as the site requires a zip code which I find odd but nothing I can do. They list 2 different Tri-Layer 11 oz -- Frosted Sugar Butter/Snickerdoodle/Butterscotch Oatmeal OR Ginger Spice/Oatmeal Raisin/Milk Chocolate Chip (according to description on Lowes Canada site) and 4 assorted 9-oz -- Snickerdoodle, Ginger Spice, White Chocolate Macadamia, Oatmeal Raisin jars (Lowes US info)

The CDN Lowes site lists the Tri-Layer at $6.98 and the 9 oz in the flyer is reg 6.98 on sale for 5.98. This is CDN $$ of course. As noted, no clue as to US Lowes $$.

Another site that came up was Staples in the US but it too asks for a zip code for where delivery would be made for me to even look at any products. Unreal as what if I was going shopping cross-border and wanted to see if they had something. Let's just say it's a massive marketing failure that you can't even browse their site from Canada as many of us shop in US. Seems they don't think that people might want to just see what product selection they might have as I only live a few hours from the border!! They redirect me to Staples Canada site - duh!!! CDN Staples doesn't carry them.

There you be. It may be that they are in some places where you would never think they are!! I'm happy to have found your site to learn the scents and possibly I've helped in finding them for you. The CDN costs are also cheaper than BBW!! For people who burn numerous candles, it helps!!
